Highway and ValveRide Custody / In development. Offered by invitation.
Different jobs, used together.
Highway helps a broker trust the carrier and protect the load, before a load is awarded and while it is moving. ValveRide Custody is the signed record of who had the freight at each handoff, and the conditions in transit each source reported. Different jobs, used together.
Three answers only: agree, disagree, or unknown. Deterministic rules. Same inputs, same answer.
Highway
What Highway does.
From Highway's own pages, checked October 2026. Highway writes Carrier Identity as a registered mark; this page uses that phrase here, once.
Highway publishes Carrier Identity products for freight brokers. Highway says those products help brokers check who a carrier is, authorize who may take part, and apply the broker's carrier standard across the life of a load.
Highway says Carrier Identity replaces one-time onboarding with checks that continue through each freight transaction, covering identity, authority, capability, insurance, and driver participation before, during, and after the load.
Before a load is awarded, Highway says a broker can check carrier identity, authority, insurance, and operational legitimacy.
Connect, on Highway's product page, is carrier sourcing, vetting, and onboarding in one platform that keeps checking. Connect checks the person behind the profile with a government ID, a live photo match, and proof they can act for the carrier. It applies the broker's rules on insurance, authority, lane history, and equipment, and assigns each carrier Pass, Partial Pass, Incomplete, or Fail, with a Highway Badge.
Load Lock, per Highway, starts when a carrier is assigned and stays on the load through delivery. It rechecks identity, checks the load against the broker's requirements, checks pickup activity, and surfaces risk while there is still time to act. Secure Rate Confirmation Delivery delivers rate confirmations through access that requires a login, so a compromised inbox cannot intercept them.
Know Your Driver, per Highway, is a live identity check of the driver (face, government ID, liveness) done inside Highway, plus a check that the identified driver is near pickup, plus a flag when one driver is assigned to multiple loads at once.
Load Lock+ is Highway's freight tracking product. Highway says it is ELD-based track and trace from pickup through delivery, on top of Load Lock, with alerts for approach to pickup or delivery, route deviations, unexpected movement, and wrong or dormant vehicle assignments.
Highway says it integrates with TMS, ELD, and freight tech platforms.
Highway for Carriers, launched in a 2025-03-18 Highway press release, is described as a no-cost product for carriers to look up brokers by name, MC, or DOT, and to see broker authority, activity, and credit standing.
ValveRide Custody
What Custody does.
Custody is the signed record of who had the freight at each handoff. It does not vet carriers, does not track trucks live, and does not prevent or recover theft.
ValveRide Custody is a sourced, signed record of every handoff and the conditions in transit, for high-value and temperature-sensitive freight.
Custody reads both sides of every handoff from the systems already running the freight and states agree, disagree, or unknown. Missing data is unknown. It is never filled in.
Federal authority and insurance status are recorded at tender and again at pickup as a timestamped fact in the pack, never a score or a rating.
ELD and GPS are read with the carrier's approval to establish arrival and departure. That is a custody event, not a live map.
No driver app, no hardware from ValveRide, and Custody never contacts a driver.
The handoff pack is free to carriers because the shipper pays for it. The booking check is a paid product, bought on its own. This site publishes no price for either.
In development. Offered by invitation.
Where they touch
Same load. Different jobs.
Carrier authority and insurance at tender and pickup
Connect and Load Lock, per Highway, check authority and insurance before a load is awarded and while it is covered. Custody records federal authority and insurance status at tender and at pickup as a timestamped fact in the pack. Same facts, different jobs: Highway uses them to decide and to watch; Custody stores what they were at those two moments.
ELD-sourced events
Load Lock+, per Highway, is ELD-based track and trace from pickup through delivery. Custody reads ELD and GPS with the carrier's approval to establish arrival and departure on the handoff record. One feed can serve both a live watch and a signed event.
Where they do not
Each product keeps its own job.
Highway's Know Your Driver check and live track-and-trace are Highway products. Custody has no driver path and no live map.
Custody's Evidence Pack, with agree, disagree, or unknown on both sides of a handoff, is a Custody product. Highway does not publish that pack.
Using Highway does not start a Custody record. Taking part in a shipper's handoff record does not start Highway.
Used together
How a broker or shipper would use both.
A broker uses Highway to decide whether to cover a carrier and to keep watching that load. The same broker, or the shipper, uses Custody to hold a signed record of each handoff after the freight moves, with both sides on the page. Highway is a product a Custody customer may already run. The two can sit on the same load. One does not replace the other.
