Freight security software, compared.
Freight security tools do different jobs: vet the carrier, track the truck, sense the trailer, recover a loss, or record who had the freight at each handoff. ValveRide Custody does that last job. The others are not substitutes. They stack.
Three answers only: agree, disagree, or unknown. Deterministic rules. Same inputs, same answer.
First, the distinction that sorts everything else.
Some tools help you decide or watch, before and during the move. The record is what you hand someone after it. A carrier identity product, a live map, a door sensor, and a theft-recovery desk each answer a different question. A custody record answers who had the freight at each handoff, with both sides on the page. Use them together. Do not swap one for the other.

The products
The products, and what each one actually does.
Named tools in this category, with what each does in its own right. ValveRide Custody is ours, so weigh that entry accordingly. Everything claimed about the others comes from their own published materials, dated October 2026. A product appears here only if it is in the committed source list.
Carrier identity and vetting
Highway
- Publishes Carrier Identity products for freight brokers. Highway says those products help brokers check who a carrier is, authorize who may take part, and apply the broker's carrier standard across the life of a load.
- Highway says those checks continue through each freight transaction, covering identity, authority, capability, insurance, and driver participation before, during, and after the load.
- Connect, per Highway, is sourcing, vetting, and onboarding in one place that keeps checking. Load Lock, per Highway, starts when a carrier is assigned and stays on the load through delivery. Load Lock+, per Highway, is ELD-based track and trace from pickup through delivery.
- Highway for Carriers, launched in a 2025-03-18 Highway press release, is described as a no-cost product for carriers to look up brokers by name, MC, or DOT.
Carrier identity and vetting
Carrier Assure
- Publishes software that scores trucking companies with active interstate authority. Carrier Assure says the score uses FMCSA data, tracking systems, and user reports, and is an A-F grade.
- Reports cover business stability, DOT performance, user reports, related-entity links, tracking, and reviews.
- Users can flag issues such as double brokering, fraud, hostage loads, theft, and unpaid balances. Carrier Assure says each report is reviewed by its team before it affects the score.
- Positioned for shippers and freight brokers choosing a trucking company.
Carrier identity and vetting
Descartes MyCarrierPortal
- Describes itself as a platform to check and monitor carriers: onboarding, insurance monitoring, and fraud defense in one product.
- Publishes carrier identity and vetting as custom risk assessments of carriers.
- Publishes automated insurance monitoring, plus ongoing checks of authority, safety records, inspections, and FMCSA requirements, with alerts when a carrier falls outside those rules.
- The features page lists Identify, Onboard, and Monitor as the three jobs.
Carrier identity and vetting
Truckstop RMIS
- Registry Monitoring Insurance Services (RMIS), acquired by Truckstop.com in March 2021. Since 1996 it collected and monitored certificates of insurance and managed rule sets for brokers, 3PLs, and shippers.
- Truckstop's current RMIS product page describes automated carrier onboarding: carriers submit documents in a portal, RMIS checks the submission, the broker can then review performance, and RMIS keeps watching for changes in status or documents.
- Publishes fraud-related checks, including flags when RMIS contact data and DOT data differ, and identity badges from a selfie compared with a government ID.
- Truckstop says RMIS carrier onboarding integrates with TMS providers and offers APIs.
Real-time visibility and tracking
project44
- Publishes a visibility product on a logistics data graph. project44 says it combines that graph with data science so a user can see where a shipment stands and what is likely to happen next.
- Connects carriers, forwarders, and facilities across modes, including ocean, air, rail, full truckload, LTL, parcel, last mile, facilities, ports, and terminals.
- Publishes API-first delivery of visibility into a TMS, ERP, or other workflow.
- Publishes predictive ETAs across modes and milestones, and associates shipments with orders and SKUs. A theft-risk mention on that page stays a visibility claim on this guide.
Real-time visibility and tracking
FourKites
- Publishes real-time visibility across modes, with ML ETAs, door-to-door ocean visibility, and temperature monitoring.
- FourKites says tracking a single truckload is the baseline, and that the product also tracks multi-leg, multi-mode shipments.
- Publishes a Shipment Twin that it says normalizes tracking across 500,000+ carriers, and ML ETAs trained on 11 years of network data.
- The same visibility page lists cargo theft prevention and recovery as an outcome, with risk scoring, behavioral monitoring, and automated response. Kept here as visibility, with that outcome attributed to FourKites.
Real-time visibility and tracking
Descartes MacroPoint
- Descartes describes MacroPoint as a multimodal freight visibility platform for shippers, brokers, and 3PLs.
- Descartes says the visibility suite gives a control-tower view from purchase order through proof of delivery.
- A 2024-04-10 Descartes press release says carriers connect to MacroPoint by GPS ELD, TMS, or a mobile app.
- The same press release announces MacroPoint FraudGuard, included in the MacroPoint subscription, to flag possible carrier or driver fraud on location and status data, including blocking location points Descartes flags as false.
Cargo theft intelligence and recovery
CargoNet
- Describes itself as a cargo theft prevention and recovery network. CargoNet says it helps prevent theft and raise recovery rates by sharing information among theft victims, their partners, and law enforcement, with a 24/7/365 Command Center.
- Membership, per CargoNet, includes recovery assistance, a law-enforcement communication platform, prevention training, and cargo theft trend analytics.
- The program page says the recovery network is integrated with multiple law enforcement systems and communicates theft details to agencies and cargo theft task forces.
- Members receive alerts on theft events, suspicious activity, fictitious pickups, and identity theft.
Cargo theft intelligence and recovery
Overhaul
- Overhaul says visibility alone will not prevent theft, damage, or delays, and that it combines SKU-level visibility, predictive risk intelligence, and monitoring.
- Publishes a 24/7 Global Security Operations Center that monitors high-risk shipments, checks alerts, and coordinates response.
- LE Connect, per Overhaul, is used on confirmed or high-confidence cargo theft events. It shares incident-specific tracking, vehicle, trailer, and shipment details with authorized law enforcement through a secure link.
- Publishes cargo theft intelligence reports, plus real-time route monitoring with geofencing, shipment risk scoring, and hot-zone / route risk mapping.
Cargo theft intelligence and recovery
Sensitech
- SensiWatch Platform, on the current HTML product page, is a cloud visibility product for inbound and outbound shipments, with alerts and intelligence data, including cargo location and condition.
- That page also says the platform can integrate IoT and third-party sources for a view of cargo integrity and security.
- A 2021 Sensitech PDF for SensiWatch Shield, still hosted on sensitech.com as of 2026-10-16, describes 24/7/365 Command and Control Center monitoring, covert IoT trackers in cargo plus trailer telematics feeds, risk analytics on route deviation, unauthorized stops, door opening, and temperature, and an Emergency Response Team that coordinates law enforcement on a suspected theft. That block is Sensitech's 2021 published description, not a 2026 HTML restatement.
Trailer and cargo security devices
Tive
- Tive Seal is a single-use cable lock for a container or trailer door. Paired with a Tive Solo 5G tracker, Tive says the platform alerts when the seal is cut or separated from the tracker.
- Tive publishes ISO 17712 and C-TPAT on the seal page. Those are Tive's claims, not Custody's.
- Tive Solo 5G is a multi-sensor shipment tracker that reports GPS location, temperature, humidity, shock, and light while a shipment is moving. Light, per Tive, can register a container or door opening. No hub or gateway required.
Trailer and cargo security devices
Phillips Connect
- CargoVision is an in-trailer cargo camera for dry van, refrigerated, and container fleets. Phillips Connect says it reports load status, volumetric data, and a record of every door event.
- Images and detections (load status, door events, cargo condition) are logged in Connect1, and Phillips Connect publishes an API for that data.
- Phillips Connect says each door event creates a timestamped visual record, and that unauthorized access can raise an alert. A door-event photo is not a claim that cargo left the trailer.
Trailer and cargo security devices
FleetPulse
- FleetPulse's marketing homepage says every door event captures a photo of what is inside, timestamped, geotagged, and tied to location, and that shifted freight or an unscheduled opening raises an alert.
- FleetPulse's CargoView product manual (updated 2026-04-24) describes CargoView as a modular telematics and cargo monitoring product with an integrated camera. The standard wireless door sensor captures and transmits images whenever a door is opened or closed.
- A door-event photo is not a claim that cargo left the trailer.
Trailer and cargo security devices
Drov Technologies
- Drov's homepage describes a cargo camera that takes an image when a door opens or closes, and a door position sensor and lock that notifies the driver and fleet when doors are opened, closed, or unlocked.
- AirBoxOne, per Drov, unifies trailer sensors (GPS, door sensors, cameras, temperature, axle weight, and others) and sends alerts to a web or mobile interface, with an API for fleets.
- The AirBoxOne product page lists door sensors, GPS and geofence notification, camera option for up to four cameras, and inside-box temperature.
Custody recordsOurs
ValveRide Custody
- ValveRide Custody is a sourced, signed record of every handoff and the conditions in transit, for high-value and temperature-sensitive freight.
- Reads both sides of a handoff from systems already running the freight and states agree, disagree, or unknown. Missing data is unknown. It is never filled in.
- Does not vet carriers, does not track trucks live, and does not prevent or recover theft.
- In development. Offered by invitation. No driver app, no hardware from ValveRide, and Custody never contacts a driver.

Where it fits
Where ValveRide Custody fits, and where it doesn't.
Custody is the signed record of who had the freight at each handoff. It is not the rest of the freight-security stack.
Custody does not vet carriers. If the problem is choosing a carrier, that is a carrier identity tool.
Custody does not track trucks live. If the problem is where the load is right now, that is a visibility tool.
Custody does not prevent or recover theft. If the problem is a hot route or a stolen trailer, that is a theft-intelligence or recovery tool.
In development. Offered by invitation.
Highway and Custody do different jobs and can be used together. Read how they sit on the same load.
Due diligence
Questions to ask any vendor.
Does it act before, during, or after the move?
A vetting tool, a live map, a door sensor, and a custody record answer at different times. Ask which window the product actually covers, in the vendor's own words.
Does it show both the shipper's record and the carrier's, or one side only?
A record built from one party's data is a claim. Custody sets both sides side by side and states agree, disagree, or unknown.
When data is missing, does it say so or fill the gap?
Missing data cannot support a positive. Custody reports unknown. Silence is never read as agreement.
Can the finished record be altered later, and would you be able to tell?
Custody signs and timestamps every finished pack. Any later alteration is detectable, including by us.
Questions
Freight security software, explained.
What is a chain of custody record for freight?
A sourced, signed record of who had the freight at each handoff, and the conditions in transit each source reported. Custody reads both sides from the systems already running the move and states agree, disagree, or unknown. Missing data is unknown. It is never filled in.
Is Custody an alternative to Highway?
No. They do different jobs, and they stack. Highway helps a broker trust the carrier and protect the load, including checks before a load is awarded and while it is moving. Custody is the signed record of who had the freight at each handoff. Using one does not start or replace the other.
Does Custody track trucks?
No. Custody is not a live map and does not track trucks. It records custody events from systems already running the freight, including ELD arrival and departure with the carrier's approval. Live tracking belongs to visibility tools.
Who pays for Custody?
The handoff pack is free to carriers because the shipper pays for it. The booking check is a paid product, bought on its own. Taking part in a shipper's handoff record never starts a booking check. This site publishes no price for either.
Does it need a driver app or hardware?
No. No driver app, no hardware from ValveRide, and Custody never contacts a driver. Carriers approve access to records their systems already produce. Trailer devices, if present, are read through the maker's own API with the owner's approval.
When data is missing, what does Custody say?
Unknown. Silence is never read as agreement. The pack shows which side was silent.
